![]() Shop Class as Soulcraft utilized the strategy of creating credibility or expressing authority throughout the entire piece in multiple forms. In regards to Shop Class as Soulcraft, building credibility or expressing authority on a piece specifically meant to inspire individuals to continue to value hard work and knowledgeable labor was key in allowing the author to stand out among other individuals that may share the same opinion. To help you further understand the education I gained, and support why I believe to be the most necessary and beneficial strategies in a successful piece are the act of storytelling, description, imagery, and the authors ability to create authority or credibility, I will share with you some of the comparisons I found between those two specific articles mentioned. I found that both articles used the strategy of invoking authority or creating credibility along with storytelling, description, or imagery most prominently to support and express the purpose of their article. The article attempted to serve the purpose of enforcing the importance of manual and knowledgeable labor and how the value of said work, is disintegrating in the modern world as more and more things become more readily accessible while in Blue-Collar Brilliance, Mike Ross contributes an article to The American Scholar Journal to discuss the accepted view of blue collar jobs requiring less intelligence or schooling. Crawford as an article for The New Atlantis Journal of Technology and Science. Shop Class as Soulcraft is a beautiful piece written by Matthew B. Both articles were written for recognized journals and were made available to the public via journal or website, and was most likely found by those furthering their education or simply searching in the subjects. In studying these strategies, I began to create my own opinions and beliefs by rhetorically analyzing and comparing two pieces titled “Shop Class as Soulcraft” and “Blue-Collar Brilliance”. The methods and strategies I researched were the act of using claims of facts or value, the use of empirical evidence, specific arrangement of ideas, use of certain types of tones, dictations, or voice, and the use of storytelling, description, or imagery, and authority/credibility. Merriam Webster Dictionary describes Rhetoric as the “art of speaking or writing effectively such as the study of principles and rules of composition formulated by critics of ancient times and/or the study of writing or speaking as a means of communication or persuasion”.
